Product carbon footprint
A carbon footprint is the climate impact of a product. Customers often ask for it before a full LCA. You can start there if you have materials and quantities.
CO2 is not the whole story. It is often the first question.
A product carbon footprint looks at climate (GWP). A full LCA can also cover other impacts. Many buyers first want a figure you can explain.
ISO 14067 is the usual frame for product climate impact. You do not need to quote the standard in the first email. You need to say what the figure covers.
What you need to have under control
Without materials, quantities and a clear boundary, the figure is hard to defend.
- Which product and which function you measure
- Which materials and processes are included
- What you leave out, so you do not overclaim
- Where the data come from: supplier, database or estimate
How LCAB helps
LCAB gathers product data and gives a guided path to climate impact and LCA. You can prepare customer documentation without promising a verified figure you do not have.
When you later move to EPD or a product passport, the data already live in one place.
Common questions
Is carbon footprint the same as ESG?
No. Carbon footprint is the climate impact of a product or activity. ESG is a broader assessment of the company.
Can we use a spreadsheet?
Yes as a start. The risk is that formulas, sources and versions drift. LCAB is built to gather that, so you can explain the figure next quarter.
Is a screening figure enough for the customer?
Often yes, if you say it is a screening and show the assumptions. A verified figure comes when the requirement is there.
Want documentation in one place?
LCAB is a guided platform for companies without an ESG team. Start with the data you already have.
